Random Notes Week of March 5-11, 2018

Greg Wilson/Editor-Publisher The Anderson Observer

Anderson County is considering hiring a local law firm to sue the makers of opiods. Details to be determined...

If you have driven around Anderson County this week, you might have seen masive piles of dirt being moved all over as Electrolux, TTI and Arthrex have earth movers digging out homes for new and expanded buildings.

Two members of Anderson County Council lamented there was no coverage of Tuesday night's meeting by the media even though I was sitting in the front row and had been taking pictures earlier. One councilmember said it was hard to get information out to people who didn't "buy the paper, have internet, or cable tv." Yeah, that is a spot on observation. Meanwhile the Observer continues to cover every meeting, just as it has the past decade. Feel a bit like Rodney Dangerfield some days, though.

In case you missed it, on Tuesday night Anderson County Council gave the go ahead to look into the county purchasing the old Equinox Mill site. Anderson County Administrator Rusty Burns said if the price is right, the move would fit the county's goal of cleaning up and returning all of the crumbling abandoned mill sites.

Also on Tuesday night, Mike Mitchell officially threw his hat into the ring as he announced plans to run for the Anderson County Council seat currently held by Tom Allen, who said in February he will not seek another term.

Bassmaster is coming, and you can get a sneak preview and meet some of the world's top anglers Monday and support Meals on Wheels of Anderson Monday night.

Saturday's regional drill championships were two teams short of being the biggest such event in the nation. See what teams won here.  The Anderson County Civic Center is entering another busy season with sports tournaments, and and upcoming visit by Comedian Ron White (although, don't take the kids to this one).

Saturday also brings Arena Football to Anderson, as our team, the Dragons will hold a scrimmage at the civic center at 2 p.m. to give folks a sneak preview of what is to come.

And the 30th annual "Walk with the Docs" is also Saturday, so the season of Saturday activies is well under way.
