Anderson, SC - Ellis Branch Drew, Jr., 83, retired Master-in-Equity Judge for the 10th Judicial District, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2017, at his residence.

Born in Anderson, SC, he was the son of the late E.B. and Edith Martin Drew. He was a graduate of Boys High School, Washington & Lee University where he was President of the Student Body and a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and the University of South Carolina School of Law.

Judge Drew served in the U.S. Army. He began his law career with the Watkins Law Firm and later moved into private practice. Judge Drew was appointed by Gov. Dick Riley as Master-in-Equity Judge for the 10th Judicial District and served in that position for 35 years, retiring in 2016. 

Judge Drew was a prolific golfer and won several golf championships at the Anderson Country Club and Cobbs Glen. He mentored many young golfers through the years. He served two terms as president of the Anderson Country Club. Judge Drew was a member of First Baptist Church of Anderson where he had served as a church trustee.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nan Haddock Drew; two sons, Ellis Branch “Bo” Drew III and his wife, Susan and their children, David and Caroline Drew of Winston-Salem, NC; Sam Drew and his wife, Cathy and their daughter, Rebecca Drew of Anderson; and a daughter, Mary Ardella Drew Rogers and her husband, John and their children, Arden, Walton, and John Haddock Rogers of Anderson; and a brother, John R. Drew of Marietta, GA.

In addition to his parents, Judge Drew was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Martin “Dick” Drew.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, October 24, at First Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Josh Hunt. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday at Sullivan-King Mortuary.
