Anderson, SC - John Cameron Deane, Jr., husband of Peggy Gardner Deane, passed away Friday, October 6, 2017, at the Rainey Hospice House. 

Born September 8, 1929, in Greenville, he was the son of the late John Cameron and Anne Harris Deane. John served four years in the United States Marine Corp and was a Veteran of the Korean War. He was a graduate of Greenville High School, Mississippi College and the Herman School of Physical Therapy in Houston, Texas. He began his career as a Physical Therapist at Greenville General Hospital, moving to AnMed Health where he served as Director of Physical Therapy, later serving at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville and retiring from Home Health Care. John was the second longest serving Physical Therapist in the state of South Carolina.  He was active in the State and National Physical Therapy Associations. He was an avid reader and was a member of the Optimist Club International.

Music played a very important role in his life. Beginning at age 6 in the Greenville Rotary Boys’ Choir, John sang in the GAMAC choir, the Boulevard Baptist Church Choir and the Cancer Association of Anderson Choir of Hope and Remembrance. He was a member of Boulevard Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school and served as a Deacon. He was known for his dedication to helping others, often working six days a week and teaching swimming for special needs children. 

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Deane of the home; two daughters, Laura Deane of Townville and Melanie Deane of Dallas, TX; and a nephew, Barry Foy. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Anne Foy.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 10, at Boulevard Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Johnny F. McKinney. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday at the church. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boulevard Baptist Church Building Fund, 700 Boulevard, Anderson, SC 29621.
