Carl Patterson

Carl E. Patterson, born May 27, 1930 in Pelzer, SC, died in Greenwood, Saturday, December 16, 2017. 

Carl was the son of the late Lorene Owen and Willie R. “Bill” Patterson. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Peggy and two daughters, Paula Boone and husband Robbie and Sherry Patterson; two grandchildren, Meg Boone and husband James Barrows, Robbie Boone, Jr. and wife Miyuki; two great-grandchildren, Audrey and Ethan Boone; sisters, Mae Rowland and Tina Wilson.

Carl was a graduate of Anderson College, Furman University and New Orleans Theological Seminary.

Carl pastored churches in Mississippi and South Carolina and was a retired claims superintendent with State Farm Insurance Co. with over 30 years of service. He was a member of Greenwood First Baptist Church, the Carpenter Class and was a former teacher and Deacon. He was also a member and past President of the Greenwood Lions Club. He was an avid tennis player, member of Greenwood Country Club and Gatewood Club. 

Private burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery. 

Memorial services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Tony Hopkins officiating. 

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Carpenter Class, members of the Greenwood Lions Club and tennis partners. 

The family will receive friends in the church Narthex immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bell Restoration Fund at First Baptist Church, 722 Grace Street, Greenwood, SC 29649 or to Hospice Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, SC 29646.
