Ex-Detention Center Director "Stick" Brown Dies at 83

Anderson, SC - George Harold “Stick” Brown, 83, passed away Friday, April 28, 2017, at his residence.

Born in Louisville, KY, he was the son of the late Rev. John Horace and Emma Justice Brown. He served in the U.S. Army and was a graduate of Tri-County Technical College. He was an outstanding basketball player in the Textile Basketball League, where he earned his nickname, “Stick”. Mr. Brown spent most of his life in law enforcement, first with the City of Anderson Police Department and later with the Anderson County Sheriff’s Department. He retired as the Director of the Anderson County Detention Center. He had served several terms as President of the S.C. Jail Administrators Association. Mr. Brown was a member of Temple Baptist Church and a former member of Oakwood Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon.

Survivors include his son, Mike Brown and wife, Scottie; his daughter, Sharon Brown Gundrum and fiancé, David Holliday, all of Anderson; and his two grandchildren, Chris Brown and Hailey Garrison and husband, Zach.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, at Temple Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Steve Hurte. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday at Sullivan-King Mortuary. The family is at the home of his daughter, Sharon Gundrum, 100 Autumn Oaks, Anderson.
