Dr. Lucille (Mitzi) Burden

Doris Lucille (Mitzi) Kimpton Burden, 88, a resident of Brookdale of Anderson, died Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at Rainey Hospice House. 

Born in Pensacola, FL November 11, 1928, she was the daughter of the late James Herman and Fay Boone Fulkerson Kimpton. Dr. Burden graduated from Anderson Jr. College and Erskine College. She received a master’s degree from Furman University and a doctorate from Nova Southeastern University. She was employed by Anderson School District Five for 33 years as an elementary teacher and librarian, secondary librarian, and district media specialist coordinator. She was an active member of the SC Association of School Librarians, where she chaired the Archives and History Committee. She served on the executive board of the Friends of the Anderson County Library, and was a volunteer worker in the Friends book store. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. 

She is survived by two sons, Kimpton Burden and his wife Rebecca, of Bal Harbour, FL and James Burden and his wife Ilse, of Colorado Springs, CO; and two grandchildren, Alexander and Sarah Burden of Colorado Springs, CO. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Harold Burden; a daughter, Julia Ann Burden; two brothers, James Kimpton of Pensacola, FL and Robert Lee Kimpton of San Diego, CA; and a sister, Fay K. Bundy of Burlington, NC.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 10, at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Rev. J. Chris Fischer. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.
