Doris M. Kelly

Anderson, SC - Doris Jane Madden Kelly, age 90, entered into the presence of Jesus on January 16, 2018.

Born in Unadilla, Georgia on May 17, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Elzie Jones Madden. Mrs. Kelly was a graduate of Girls High and a member of the First Baptist Church for the last 68 years, where she was a long-time member of the Dorcas Sunday school class. She also sang in the sanctuary choir for many years and taught children’s Sunday school and played the piano for the Sunday school department. Her last place of employment was with the First Baptist Church Child Development Center. She was a woman of great faith and a tremendous prayer warrior. In her journal she wrote, “I’m not afraid to die. God gives me strength throughout my life, but also will help me face the end. I will live with Him throughout eternity.”

She is survived by her daughter Bess Marie Kelly of Anderson and son Ken Kelly and his wife Anita of Chapin; five grandchildren, Jennifer Kelly Thompson (Tom), Ross Kelly (Jamile), Kenny Kelly (Jamie), Kevin Kelly (Erin), and Tyler Kelly; six great-grandchildren; a beloved nephew Jim Maholm (Tiffany) of Dublin, Ohio and other nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John B. Kelly, Jr., a son Alan Kelly, and two sisters, Helen Madden and Margaret Madden Maholm.

A service celebrating Doris’ life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 19, at First Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Josh Hunt. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 until 1:45 p.m. Friday at the church. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 307 South Manning Street, Anderson, SC 29624.
