WILLIAM PATTERSON

Anderson – William Patterson, 72, of 406-A Carver St., passed away on September 22, 2009.  He is survived by his son, Eric Mandrell Patterson; sisters, Dorothy Patterson and Lillie Mae Williford; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Lucinda Wood Patterson.
 
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, September 27, 2009 at Mt. TERESA JOYCE SIMPSON

April 20, 1945 – September 21, 2009     
                      
PENDLETON, SC - Teresa Joyce Simpson, age 64, of 2734 Lebanon Road, died Monday, September 21, 2009 at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson. She was employed with Anderson County for over 26 years in the Tax Assessors and Building and Codes Offices.  She loved cooking and enjoyed dancing.  She was a member of Concord Baptist Church.
 
Survivors include her daughters, April Gaines and her husband, Craig of Douglasville, GA and Kelly Simpson and her husband, Rick Waters of Anderson, SC; three grandchildren, Whitney Gaines, Ashley Gaines and Mick Waters; special uncle, Fred Hammond and very close cousin, Barbara Campbell. In addition to her mother, Tulan Christine Hammond Ramage, she was predeceased by her aunt by whom she was raised, Inez Simpson and a brother, Joe Boyd Ramage.
 
A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at 11:00 am at Forest Lawn Memorial Park officiated by the Reverend Bob Marcaurelle. The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. The family will be at the home of her daughter, Kelly Simpson, 303 Ashwood Lane, Anderson, SC.

J. E. WICKER

                                              March 15, 1923 – September 20, 2009
 
ANDERSON, SC - Mr. J. E. Wicker, age 86, husband of the late Zelphia Burns Wicker, of 1005 Raymond Avenue, died Sunday, September 20, 2009 at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.
 
Born in Anderson, SC on March 15, 1923, Mr. Wicker was the son of the late Samuel Eli Wicker and Mattie Rumsey Wicker. He was a United States Army veteran and retired from Abney Mills as a spinning technician.
 
He is survived by his son, Bobby Wicker and his wife, Karen of Anderson; brother, Fred Wicker of Townville; sister, Frances Stewart of Anderson; two granddaughters, Crystal Queen and Tammy Wicker and two great-granddaughters, Breanna and Taylor Queen.
 
He was predeceased by six brothers, Buster, J. C., Melvin, Albert, Sam Jr., and Ernest Wicker; two sisters, I. V. Richey and Annie Porter and a granddaughter, Sandra Wicker.
 
The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at 1:30 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverend Brent Lollis.  Interment will follow in Anderson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The family will be at the residence.

ALBERT M. DAVIS

ANDERSON – Albert Marshall Davis, 75, of 129 Cann Road, husband of Joyce Moore Davis, died Friday, September 18, 2009 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born November 14, 1933 in Anderson, he was the son of the late Hamer F. and Violet Scoggins Davis. He served his country in the U. S. Army and later worked and retired from Milliken as an instructor. He was a member of Barnette’s Grove Emmanuel Holiness Church.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce of the home; 2 daughters, Sherry Lynn Davis and Pam Sanchez (Dennis), both of Anderson; 2 sons, Ricky Davis (Debra) of Anderson and Bobby Davis (Debbie) of Greenville; 8 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Betty Swaney of Pendleton, Connie Blair and Jane Richey, both of Anderson; and 3 brothers, Jack, Lewis and Freddie Davis, all of Anderson. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Davis.

Graveside service will be held at 2 pm Monday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum conducted by Revs. Bob Hicks and Eddie Duncan. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 pm Sunday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 Hwy 81N. The family is at the residence. SULA B. CROMER

WILLIAMSTON – Sula Boggs Cromer, 94, of 113 Slawson Drive, widow of Bertram Orr Cromer, Sr., died Friday, September 18, 2009 at the Rainey Hospice House. Born January 26, 1915 in Anderson, she was a 1933 graduate of Girl’s High School. She was a retired employee of Fiber Industries, Greenville and was a member of Union Grove United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Bertha Gunnels of Williamston, and Carol Bowen (Jim) of Anderson; four sons, Orr Cromer (Marion) of Spartanburg, Ernest Cromer (Louise) of Cottageville, Phillip Cromer (Patricia) of Starr, and Stanley Cromer (Ann) of Columbia; 26 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; and 11 great-great grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Olin and Frank Boggs, and one sister, Azilee Chamblee.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Union Grove United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Howard Addis. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3 p.m. Sunday at the church. The family is at the residence, 113 Slawson Road, Williamston.

PAT O’LAUGHLIN

April 4, 1941 – September 18, 2009
 
TOWNVILLE, SC - Gerwood Patrick O’Laughlin, age 68, husband of Sally J. Oliver O’Laughlin of 108 Mystic Cove Lane, Townville, died Friday, September 18, 2009.
 
Born in Baltimore, MD on April 4, 1941, Pat was the son of Lillian Hellman O’Laughlin of Bel Air, MD and the late Gerwood O’Laughlin.  He was a United States Air Force veteran having served in the Vietnam War.  He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering at Nova University in Davie, FL and attended John Hopkins University.  He was employed with Honeywell Corporation in West Palm Beach, FL for 28 years and upon moving to the Upstate, he was employed with Lockheed Martin Aerospace Company in Greenville.  Mr. O’Laughlin attended Boulevard Baptist Church.
 
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by sons, Michael P. O’Laughlin and his wife, Kristy of Easley and Christopher S. O’Laughlin and his wife, Tiffany of Denver, CO; daughter, Sandi J. May and her husband, Warren of Canton, GA; four grandchildren, Chelsea, Holly, Camden and Corah. He was predeceased by his son, Robert Scott O’Laughlin.

URSULA T. FINLEY

ANDERSON, SC - Ursula Tiller Ivester Finley, age 91, of 414 Carole Avenue, passed away on Friday, September 18, 2009 at Brookside Living Center. Born in Hartwell, GA on July 3, 1918, Mrs. Finley was a daughter of the late James Alexander Tiller and Clara Jane McCurley Tiller.  She was a 1937 graduate of Girls’ High School and was District Manager with the Avon Cosmetic Company for over 43 years.  She lived in Travelers Rest for 20 years before moving to Anderson in 1969.  Mrs. Finley was a Member of New Hope United Methodist Church.
 
She is survived by a daughter, Carole Hawkins and her husband, Terry of Anderson; step children; Mike Finley of Pawleys Island and Pam Griffin of Greer; brothers, Bobby J. Tiller and W. Eugene Tiller, both of Wilmington, NC and Harold D. Tiller of Atlanta; sister Ellie T. Harper of Anderson; niece, who was raised in the home, Gail Brown of Iva; four grandchildren, Debbie West, Mike Hawkins, Eddie Hawkins and Delane Crawford; twelve great-grandchildren; five step grandchildren and seven step great-grandchildren.
 
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, (W. L.) William Lester Ivester and her second husband, Charles E. Finley; daughter, Brenda Ivester Adams; brother, James Isham Tiller and a great grandchild, Chelsea Ursula Hawkins.
 
The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2009 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home.  Her ashes will be interred in New Silver Brook Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm. The family will be at the home of her daughter, 414 Carole Avenue, Anderson.

THE REVEREND FATHER THADDEUS M. SAPIO, O.F.M.
AUGUST 7, 1938 – SEPTEMBER 17, 2009
 
ANDERSON, SC – The Reverend Father Thaddeus Michael Sapio, O.F.M., died peacefully at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, SC, on Thursday, September 17, 2009, at the age of 71.
 
Born Raymond Nicholas Sapio in Haddonfield, NJ, on August 7, 1938, he was the only child of the late Nicholas Sapio and Helen Hunt Sapio. He received the name Thaddeus Michael when he was received into the Order of Friars Minor (the Franciscans) in 1958.  Father Thaddeus pronounced first vows in 1959 and was ordained Priest.
 
Father Thaddeus was educated at Christ the King in Haddonfield, NJ, where he first met the Franciscans.  From there he went to St. Joseph’s Seminary in Callicoon, NY, where he formerly started his life with the friars.  Father Thaddeus studied Philosophy in Rye Beach, NH, and studied Theology in Washington, DC.  He was ordained at Priest at Mt. St. Sepulchre in Washington, DC, on March 13, 1965.  During his many years of service to God’s people, his assignments included serving the parishes in Beach Haven, NJ, San Antonio, TX, Rye Beach, NH, Camden, NJ, Yulan, NY, Bronx, NY, and lastly Anderson, SC.
 
Father Thaddeus is survived by his 366 brothers in the province; his church family at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church; his dog, “Jumper”; and a myriad of others who know him and love him dearly.
 
Father Thaddeus will lie in state at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church, 1821 White Street, from 1:30 pm until 6:00 pm on Sunday, September 20, 2009.  A prayer service will be held be held at the Church from 7:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Sunday, September 20, 2009. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10 am on Monday, September 21, 2009, at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church.   Further services with burial will be held in Patterson, NJ. It is suggested that memorials gifts be given to the Building Fund of St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church, 1821 White Street, Anderson, SC 29621. ROMAN CEPEDA

FEBRUARY 27, 1915 – SEPTEMBER 16, 2009
 
ANDERSON, SC – Roman Cepeda, age 94, of 3080 Park Avenue, Bronx, NY, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2009, at the home of his grandson in Anderson, SC.
 
Born in Puerto Rico on February 27, 1915, he was a son of the late Manuell Carrasquillo Borea and Francisca Cepeda Cruz.  He was a College Professor while residing in Puerto Rico and a Postman while residing in New York. Survivors include his wife, Socorro Pizarro Cepeda of Anderson, SC; grandson: Christopher Turley and wife, Jill; great grandchildren: Catlyn Turley, Glenn Turley, Lexus Turley, Damian Turley, Domenic Turley, and Joshua Rollins.
 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Maria Cepeda Turley; and brothers & sisters: Pablo, Demetrio, Francis, Secilio, Dorotea, Isabel, and Catalina Carrasquillo.
 
The Funeral Service will be held at 4 pm on Saturday, September 19, 2009, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by the Reverend Ray Longnecker.   Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. ANDERSON, SC – Mrs. Ida Beth Rainey Chamblee, age 89, of 2014 College Avenue passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2009, at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.
 
Born in Starr, SC, on August 30, 1920, she was a daughter of the late John Alvin Rainey and Lucy Todd Rainey.  Mrs. Chamblee was Valedictorian of her graduating class at Starr High School and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Anderson.
 
Mrs. Chamblee is survived by her daughter, Lynn Chamblee Brown, of the home; two grandchildren: Russell Brown and Dexter Brown; three great grandchildren: Matthew Brown, Christian Brown, and Justin Brown; and one sister, Mary Ellen Kirkpatrick of Anderson.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Pershing Aubrey Chamblee; one sister, Catherine Rainey Shirley and one brother, Samuel Todd Rainey.
 
The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home from 1:30 pm until 2:30 pm on Friday, September 18, 2009.   A Graveside Service will follow at 3 pm at New Silver Brook Cemetery, conducted by the Reverend Dr. Dennis Tedder and Father Hayden Vaverek. FREDDIE BLACKWOOD, JR

SALUDA, SC - Freddie Mason Blackwood, Jr., age 62, formerly of 320 Dogwood Street, Anderson, died Monday, September 14, 2009 at Saluda Nursing Center.
 
Born in Spartanburg, SC on July 17, 1947, he was the son of Doris McBee Blackwood of Anderson and the late Freddie Mason Blackwood Sr..  He was a United States Marine Corps veteran having served in the Vietnam War.  Mr. Blackwood was a member of North Anderson Baptist Church.  Freddie was involved with Promise Keepers and volunteered at the Haven of Rest Ministries.
 
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughter, Meghan Brynna Blackwood of Athens, GA; granddaughter, Alexis Mason Jane Cottle; sister, Jan Wilson and her husband, Mike of Athens, GA; niece, Natalie Brooke Amey; nephew Patrick Michael Wilson and great-nephew, Shawn S. Williams.
 
The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 3:30 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverend Bill Rigsby.  Serving as pallbearers will be Patrick Wilson, Mike Wilson, Chuck Shook, Mike Thrasher, and Shawn Williams.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Military Honors.      Anderson, SC – Michael Eugene Oliver, age 42, of 110 Frances Street, died Saturday, September 12, 2009 at his residence. Born in Anderson, SC, he was the son of Gerald Oliver of Anderson and Nancy Tucker Standard and her husband, Bud, of Belton. He attended River of Life Church of God.
 
     Survivors include three brothers, Curtis Oliver of Simpsonville, SC, Chris Oliver of Anderson, SC and Eddie Oliver of Williamston, SC; two sisters, Cindy Hanks and Connie Hamby, both of Belton, SC; and grandparents, Nellie Oliver, Joel Mize and Mr. and Mrs. Homer Tucker. Mr. Oliver is predeceased by grandparents, Pearl Mize, Reverend Olin Oliver, and Lela Standard; nephew, Garrett Hanks; step-sister, Rita Standard and step-brother, Dean Standard.
