HAROLD STONE

August 7, 1929 – August 26, 2009
TOWNVILLE, SC - Harold Mason Stone, age 80 husband of Clara Belle Dyar Stone of 110 Smith Chapel Road, died Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at NHC HealthCare in Anderson.

Born in Anderson County, SC, Mr. Stone was a son of the late John T. Stone and Edith Beebee Stone Davenport. He retired as an insurance agent from Independent Life Insurance Company after 35 years of service. He lived in Aiken, SC for 40 years before returning to Townville in 1998. While living in Aiken, he was a Shriner, member of the Masonic Lodge #156, and Millbrook Baptist Church. He was a resident of NHC HealthCare for the past six years.

Survivors include his wife of the home; son, Ronnie Stone; daughter Renee Stone Leaf and her husband Eric; one grandson; three granddaughters and three great-granddaughters. A brother, Martin T. Stone and a sister, Johnny Mae Stone preceded him in death. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 28, 2009 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverends Bob Hicks and J. Floyd Stansell, Jr. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 12:30 until 1:30 pm. The family will be at the residence.

Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Barnette Grove Cathedral of Love, 5523 Highway 187, Anderson, SC 29625.

ALFONS G. HUTTER

MAY 13, 1927 – AUGUST 24, 2009

ANDERSON, SC – Alfons G. Hutter, age 82, passed away August 24th at Anderson Place. He was born May 13, 1927, in New York City, the only child of August and Josephina Raugh Hutter. His parents had immigrated to the U.S. six years earlier, from what was then the Kingdom of the Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes. From them he inherited an indomitable will to improve his lot. In 1938 there was, according to him, a brief scare when his father received a letter from Yugoslavia, offering the family farm to him. After some suspense and some hesitation, his father declined, and the Hutters were American to stay.

In the month of his eighteenth birthday he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and after being honorably discharged he put himself through college with the help of the G.I. Bill and various full-time jobs, working his way to a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute and a law degree from St. John’s University. He then got a job with the U.S. Patent Office.

At the same time he met and married Agatha Von Essen. First working in Washington, D.C., he later took jobs in private industry in upstate New York and again in New York City. He retired in 1987 from the General Electric Company after 26 years of service, and at the suggestion of friends, who knew and loved the area, moved to Anderson. He is survived by Agatha, his loving wife of 55 years, their four children: Jo Anne Yuzawa of Wyckoff, N.J., John Hutter of Austin, Tex., Peter Hutter of Baldwinsville, N.Y., and Robert Hutter of Rochester, N.Y.; and five grandchildren.

The Funeral Service will be held at 4:30 pm on Thursday, August 27th, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by Father Hayden S. Vaverek. The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home from 5 pm until 7pm on Wednesday, August 26th.

TERRY HOLBROOKS

October 25, 1955 – August 21, 2009

ANDERSON, SC - Terry Michael Holbrooks, age 53, husband of Roxy Berger Holbrooks, of 122 Cleveland Road, died Friday, August 21, 2009 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Oconee County, SC, Terry was a son of the late Clyde Holbrooks and Betty Lee Holbrooks of Westminster. He attended Westminster High School and received training at the Ford Motor Tractor Company. He was a diesel mechanic and was formerly employed as a shop manager with Anderson Rent All and was also employed with Powell Brothers Equipment Company. Terry was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Temple and was affectionately known to his special buddy and grandson, Noah as “Poppie”.

Survivors include his wife of the home; son, Terry Micheal Holbrooks, Jr., of Seneca; daughter, Amy Locklear and her husband, Michael; a grandson, Noah, all of Anderson; mother, Betty Lee Holbrooks, Westminster; brother, Ned Holbrooks of Westminster; sisters, Joyce White of Westminster and Carol Stone of Royston, GA; mother-in-law, Roxana Hilliard of Anderson; brother-in-law, Danny Berger of North Carolina and sister-in-law, Kathy Maney of Anderson.

A grandson, Payton Myles Locklear preceded him in death.

The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 24, 2009 at 3:00 pm at Gethsemane Baptist Temple officiated by the Reverend Sam Duncan. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm.

The family will be at the residence.

Margaret “Sally” Witz Siebrecht

     ANDERSON, SC - Margaret “Sally” Witz Siebrecht, age 78 wife of the late William August Siebrecht of 504 East Fredricks Street, died Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at her residence.

Born in Hollywood, FL, she was the daughter of the late Irvin McKinley Witz, Sr., and Margurite James Witz. Mrs. Siebrecht was a graduate of Miami-Edison High School in Miami, FL and retired in 1984 as foreman from Bell South Telephone Company in Hollywood, FL. Along with her husband, they moved to West Jefferson, NC where they lived for ten years before moving to Anderson, SC. She was a volunteer at the Anderson Area Medical Center for over six years. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she was a member and teacher of the Wesley Sunday School Class.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra C. James and her husband, Lyndon; six grandchildren, Jennifer Norris, Heather James, Rachel James, Lyndee James, Paul James and Tim James and four great-grandchildren, Hunter, Jonathan, David and Kaden, all of Anderson. Also surviving is a brother, Irvin McKinley Witz, Jr., of Hollywood, FL.

A Graveside Service will be held in South Memorial Park in North Miami Beach, FL on Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at 1:30 pm. Also a Memorial Service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church at 6:00 pm on Friday, August 28, 2009

MARY ALICE KRAKOS

APRIL 28, 1916 – AUGUST 19, 2009

     ANDERSON, SC –Mary Alice Krakos, age 93, died August 19, 2009, at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson. Born April 28,1916, in St. Louis, MO, she was the daughter of the late Andrew P. Krakos and Margaret Farnsworth Krakos. In addition, a brother, Lawrence Krakos, predeceased her.

     Survivors include a brother, George Krakos and wife, Jan of Anderson, SC; nephews: Rod, Garry, Jeff, and Greg Krakos; niece, Sherry Krakos; and also great nieces and nephews.

     She was a longtime resident of Chicago and in 1991 relocated to Anderson, SC to be near her family. She had many cats in her lifetime, which she loved very much.

     The Funeral Mass will be held at 2:30 pm on Saturday, August 22, 2009, at St. Joseph Catholic Church celebrated by Father Hayden S. Vaverek. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

GENE T. MOON

December 20, 1937 – August 19, 2009

     ANDERSON, SC - Gene Thomas Moon, age 71, of 121 Park Way, died Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at his residence.

     Born in Elbert County, GA, he was a son of the late Thomas W. Moon and Corene David Moon. He retired as co-owner of Moon Brothers Tile and Stone, Inc. after 26 years of service. Gene was involved in Civil Defense for 15 years and was a member of West Whitner Baptist Church where he served as a former deacon.

     He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Beth Rice Moon; son, Tony Moon and his wife, Brenda of Anderson; daughter, Sherry Moon of Six Mile; four grandchildren, Clint Powell who was raised in the home, Charity Grace Powell, Gabriel Moon and Michaela Moon; brother, James W. Moon and his wife, Linda Jo of Anderson; sisters, Helen Motes and her husband, Gerald of Anderson, Lavera Harper and her husband, Larry and Jesse Slay and her husband, Wilton, all of Dewy Rose, GA and Cindy Dunn of Bowman, GA. He is also survived by his beloved Boston Terrier, Bubba. Gene was predeceased by a brother, Joe C. Moon.

     The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 21, 2009 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverends Jerry Durham and Jonathan McGary. Interment will follow in Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery, Bowman, GA.

T. P. CORNETT

February 28, 1931 – August 19, 2009

     ANDERSON, SC - Talton Preston Cornett, age 78, husband of Mary Holcombe Cornett, of 3931 Highway 24, passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at the AnMed Health Medical Center.

     Born in Jasper, GA, he was a son of the late Talton Cornett and Mary Bolding Cornett. He was a construction superintendent with Pickens Construction Company in Anderson and the Hubbard Construction in Walhalla. He was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Temple.

     Survivors include his wife of the home; twin daughters, Janet Burt and Jane Peace, both of Fort Paine, AL and Gail Purdy of Anderson; sons, Wendell Cornett of Chattanooga, TN, Winford Cornett of Dayton, TN; Mike Crawford of Six Mile, SC and Steve Crawford of Wills Point, TX; sisters, Elizabeth Waters, Mary Carver and Eva Denny, all of Jasper, GA; brothers, J. C. Cornett of Ball Ground, GA and Randall Cornett of Hinton, GA. He was also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harpo Cornett.

     The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverend Sam Duncan. Interment will follow in New Silver Brook Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, August 21, 2009 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm The family will be at the residence. LUCIUS M. NEESE

ANDERSON, SC – Lucius Meredith Neese, age 84, passed away early Tuesday morning from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born in Hart County on November 12, 1924, he was a son of the late Thomas Charles Neese and Corrie Brown Neese. Mr. Neese retired from the textiles industry and was a member of Sardis Baptist Church in Hartwell, GA, and had formerly attended Midway Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Grace Conwell Neese; children: Sandra Neese Perkins and husband, Jeff of Anderson, SC, Karen Neese Wilson and husband, Cliff of Pawleys Island, SC, John Meredith Neese and wife, Angela of Charlotte, NC, and Tina Stephens and husband, Jason of Anderson, SC; brother, Austin Neese of Anderson; eight grandchildren: Marty Isom, Brad Isom, Laurel Finley, Jeffrey Perkins, Jr., Jacob Perkins, Corey Myers, Jonathan Wilson, Alexandra Hayne; great grandchildren: Britt Isom, Zach Isom, Jake Isom, Kalyn Finley, Savanna Finley, and Cameron Finley.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters: Opal Lewis, Pauline Neese, and Vera Sexton Carter; and brothers: Billy Neese, Furman Neese, John S. Neese, Jack Neese; one infant sister, Sally Neese and one infant brother, Emmett Neese.

The Funeral Service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, August 22, 2009, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by the Reverend Beryl Rosenberger. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 pm until 7:30 pm on Friday, August 21, 2009.

MARCH 14, 1920 – AUGUST 18, 2009

ANDERSON, SC – Helen Sellers Bell, age 89, formerly of Hickory, NC, died on August 18, 2009, at National Health Care of Anderson.

Survivors include her daughters: Ann Rushing and husband, Larry of Anderson, SC, & Donna Herman and husband, Don of Gastonia, NC. She is also survived by grandchildren: Karen Harbin and husband, Jay, Brack Rushing, Julie Taylor and husband, Scott; and four great grandchildren: Nash & Grace Harbin, and Ben & Josh Taylor.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 22, 2009, at the First Presbyterian Church of Hickory, NC.

Inurnment will be held at a later date in Durham, NC.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 237 Second Street NW, Hickory, NC, 28601.
