Four Anderson schools have been placed on a precautionary lockdown after law enforcement notified District Five that two youths left home this morning with camping equipment and three handguns. Neither youth has trespassed on any of the school sites and the day has proceeded without incident. The four schools are: McCants Middle School, Midway Elementary School of Science and Engineering, Calhoun Academy of the Arts and T.L. Hanna High School.  These four schools were placed on precautionary lockdown because of their proximity to the residence of the youths. A law enforcement helicopter flew over the area around the schools most of the day as part of the stepped up security.

Here is the official email from McCants Pricipal Jacky Stamps: "It was reported to the school this morning by the parents of two of our students that their two sons were missing from home this morning when the mom went to wake them up for school.  Unknown to the parents, the two students were not at school yesterday as well.  The father has reported that some hand guns are also missing from the home as well as camping equipment.  The police were notified and are presently searching for the two students in the area near the parents’ home.  We have no reason to think these students are anywhere near McCants, but we are taking this matter very seriously."
