Clemson, Anderson Library Plan "Color Purple" Events

     In conjunction with the upcoming presentation of "The Color Purple," Clemson's Brooks Center for the Performing Arts and the Anderson County Library System are hosting a series of community events, among   them a panel discussion, film screening and book discussions
     The live performance of the Tony Award-winning musical will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, at the Brooks Center.
     “This is a perfect opportunity to extend the performance beyond the Brooks Center,” said Lillian Harder, Brooks Center director. “These events will provide insight into the much-beloved musical, novel and film.”
     There will be a panel discussion about the novel, film and musical at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15, at the Anderson County Library main branch. The panel will feature Clemson University faculty members from various departments, including English, history and performing arts. The Friends of the Anderson County Library System are sponsoring the event. Refreshments will be served.
     The film "The Color Purple" will be presented at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, at the main library.
     Glenn Hare, marketing director of the Brooks Center, will discuss aspects of the Broadway production at the Iva Book Club (Iva branch) at 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16; the Brown Bag Book Club (main library) at noon Wednesday, Aug. 25; and the Pendleton Book Club (Pendleton branch) at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26.
All events are free and open to the public. A limited number of free copies of "The Color Purple" are available to library patrons on a first-come first-served basis beginning Monday, Aug. 2.      Tickets for the Brooks Center performance of the show are $40 for adults and $30 for students. Tickets and show information are available at or from the box office at 864-656-7787 from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.
