Kristin Palmer Williams was named executive director of the Cancer Association of Anderson on Wednesday. She succeeds the founding executive director, Kathryn Smith, who is taking on a new role as development coordinator for the organization.

Mrs. Williams, 44, has been an active volunteer at CAA for several years, serving as captain of its Daring Divas & Dashing Dudes Marathon Team and participating in the 1 in 8 Breast Cancer support Group and the C Dragons dragon boat team. She also serves on the cancer care team at her church. A graduate of Clemson University, she has had a successful career in sales and marketing and has run her own marketing firm, PalmerBrown Direct, for the past five years.

A native of Anderson County and graduate of Belton-Honea Path High School, Mrs. Williams is married to Butch Williams and is the mother of two children, Austin, 14, and Devin, 10. She is pictured with her husband on the cover of “The Pink Book” of breast cancer survivor stories recently published by the Cancer Association.

"I am thrilled about taking on the leadership position of executive director of the Cancer Association of Anderson. Kathryn has had such a positive influence on the cancer patients of Anderson County, and I look forward to following in her footsteps," Mrs. Williams said.

“We are delighted that a person with Kristin’s abilities and passion who also happens to be a cancer survivor will be leading our organization,” said Dr. David Martoccia, president of the board of directors. He noted that the search for the right person began in July, and numerous interviews were conducted by a committee of board members, staff and cancer survivors.

Mrs. Smith, who announced plans to step down as executive director this past spring, said she is very pleased by the board’s choice. “I am so glad Kristin is coming on board to move CAA to the next level, and hope she enjoys her work here as much as I have. I look forward to working under her as development coordinator.”

Mrs. Williams will also be assisted by Lynn Buchanan, site manager; Julie Hart, project coordinator, and the board of directors. She begins her duties on Oct. 17.
