Lady Trojans Lose Season Opener

AMERICUS, Ga. – The Anderson softball team rallied for a pair of runs in the final two innings, but fell 7-2 to Brewton-Parker Sunday afternoon at Georgia Southwestern’s Lady 'Canes Field.

The Trojans (0-1) kept the contest close through the fourth inning until the Barons’ bats heated up. With one out in the fifth and runners at the corners, Heather Snyder came through with an RBI single that gave Brewton-Parker (2-0) the 1-0 advantage. One out later, with runners on second and third, Crystal Chesser hit a single to plate both base runners and increase the B-P lead to 3-0.

The Baron squad posted four hits by the Baron squad in the top of the sixth and with runners on second and third, Snyder again came through with a one-out single to bring two base runners across the plate to increase the Barons lead to 5-0.

Anderson’s Brooke Lucas started off the bottom of the sixth inning with a double to deep right field. One out later, with Lucas on third, Danielle Swygert came to the plate and grounded out, earning her first RBI of the season as Lucas scored to make the score 5-1.

The Barons struck again in the top of the seventh with precise hitting and a costly Trojans error, which saw Anderson go into the bottom-half of the seventh down 7-1.

The Trojans attempted a comeback in the seventh as Amber Duncan walked with one out. The next batter, Charlotte Sieber hit a clutch single to advance Duncan to third. That would send up Kinsley Durham next who reached on an error by the Barons infield, allowing Duncan to score.

Senior Casey Deer (0-1) pitched the complete game for Anderson, giving up six earned runs off of 16 hits. The Barons pitching squad yielded just one earned run over four hits.

The Trojans take the field again on Friday when they face Shaw in a doubleheader in Raleigh. The first game is set to start at noon.
