A free training course to teach volunteers how to advocate for children taken from homes of abuse and neglect will begin Monday, May 2 through the Anderson County Guardian ad Litem program. The first class is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Foothills Alliance, 216 E. Calhoun Street, in Anderson.

Interested volunteers must be at least 21 years old and pass a Central Registry and background check before being cleared to take the class.  Cases takes a commitment of  approximately four to six hours per month and, according to organizers, volunteers are often the  sole  source of stability for children who are regularly transferred between different foster homes, to new schools, and  change case workers,  often losing contact with friends and extended family.

The Anderson County Guardian ad Litem Program is a division of the S.C. Governor’s Office of Executive Policy and Programs.  For information, visit or call Cindy Sauer at 864-225-2348.
