The SC Upstate Equine Council will be hosting an educational and entertaining day of horse related activities, 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM Saturday, May 21, 2011 at the T. Ed Garrison Arena in Pendleton, SC.

The purpose of the ‘Horse Play in May’ is to highlight the many facets of the horse, the relationship between horse and rider, and the important roles that both horse and rider play in the past, present, and future of the upstate.

Highlighting the event will be a Parade of Breeds at 11:00 AM, demonstrations by horse trainer Dave Seay at 12:00 noon, and an Arena Polo match at 3:00 PM.

Throughout the day, riders of various horse disciplines including reining horses, show jumping, and dressage will showcase their mounted sports and breeds. There will also be educational programs, children’s games, vendors, and Silent Auctions.

The cost for the event is $5.00 per car or a contribution of $25.00 or more. Contributors will receive gift bags containing a program, sample products and other handout materials.

There are more than 11,000 equines in the three-county area of Anderson, Oconee and Pickens. These counties together comprise a $63 million annual equine industry.  SCUEC is committed to educating, encouraging and promoting this industry.
