ROCK HILL, S.C. – Anderson senior second baseman Ryan Saxon and junior third baseman Blake May each earned 2011 South Atlantic Baseball All-Conference honors, as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.

Saxon ended his career at Anderson in the top five in two major offensive categories. The Landrum, S.C., native, ranks second on the career home run list and fourth on the career doubles list. He is also in the top ten on the career list at Anderson in hits and RBI. Saxon led the team last season with a .316 batting average and scored a team-high 35 runs, while ranking second on the squad in both slugging percentage (.492) and on-base percentage (.383).

“I was really glad to see Ryan get recognized for a good season,” said Anderson head coach Joe Miller. “He has been a very solid player for four years and he’s very deserving.”

May posted a stellar .967 fielding percentage last season, committing just five errors while starting all 50 games for the Trojans. On the offensive side, he was fifth on the squad with a .274 batting average.

“Blake was also very deserving of the Gold Glove,’ added Miller. “I don’t think there’s any question that he’s the best defensive third baseman in the league.”

The awards will be presented Wednesday after the second game of the 2011 Food Lion SAC Baseball Tournament, which will be played at McNair Field in Forest City, N.C.

The South Atlantic Conference All-Conference and Gold Glove teams are selected by the league’s head coaches.

Regular season statistical champions and senior awards were also announced.
