Sarah Jordan, has been named one of three national finalists for the National Teacher of the Year Award from the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS).

Ms. Jordan, who teaches Fashion Design and Interior Design at the Anderson V Career Campus, has already been named the South Carolina Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher of the Year.

A teacher of Family and Consumer courses for 18 years, Ms. Jordan submitted a project titled “Extreme Makeover Student Edition.” The project began with an idea to renovate an existing underutilized home adjacent to the Career Campus.  Patterned after a Southern Living Showcase home, it was transformed into the Anderson V Conference Center.  With the help of many departments in the school, the students were provided a real-life, hands-on, creative and innovative project that is a showcase for the school, community, and the state.

Ms. Jordan will be recognized at the AAFCS National Conference this summer in Phoenix, Arizona.

The American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) National Teacher of the Year Award and Affiliate Teacher of the Year Awards recognize exemplary family and consumer science teachers who exhibit a deep commitment to the profession and to the Association. These teachers have outstanding educational programs that utilize cutting-edge methods, techniques, and activities to provide the stimulus for and give visibility to family and consumer sciences elementary and secondary education.
