McCants Places Second in Statewide Stock Competition

For the second consecutive year, McCants Middle School has had one of its Stock Market Game teams place second in the state in the annual spring competition.

Congratulations to team members Nicole Pappas, Cope Brown, Derrick Wiley, Ben Lattimore and Jordan Combs. The students will receive trophies at an award ceremony in Columbia on May 20th.

Advisors for the McCants teams were David Hymson, a seventh grade social studies teacher, and Matthew Ball, a seventh grade math teacher.

The Stock Market Game is a statewide competition sponsored by the nonprofit group SC Economics, formerly named the South Carolina Council on Economic Education. There is a fall game and a spring game each year. The students are given an account with $100,000 of  imaginary money. The teams can buy and sell securities sold in the U.S. over a six-week period. The teams with the greatest rate of return are ranked 1 through 90.

Each year, more than 6,000 students in grades 4-12 play the Stock Market Game in South Carolina. Available to public, private and home schools, along with community organizations, the Game is SC Economics' signature program for students. For more information please log onto www.stockmarketgame.org.
