A representative from the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (LLR) will be in Anderson on Friday, July 29, to provide a briefing for Anderson County employers on the recently revised state immigration law, and to conduct a demonstration on the U. S. Dept. of Homeland Security's E-Verify system.

The session will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Anderson County Public Library.  All employers are invited to attend.

The SC Legislature in June amended the "Illegal Aliens and Private Employment" law to require that every employer verify their new hires through E-Verify beginning January 1, 2012.  Employers who fail to enroll in E-Verify and verify their new hires through E-Verify can lose their business licenses.  The SC Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation is charged with conducting random audits of employers to assure compliance.
