Council Says "Shop Local" This Christmas

'Tis the season to shop locally. That was the message of a resolution passed during Anderson County Council's first meeting of December, an official encouragement to remember why it's import to shop locally.

"I think this is worthwhile and important to support our small businesses, because they are the backbone of our community," said Anderson County Council Chairman Tommy Dunn.

Council also gave the go ahead to the purchase of four Ford Police Intercept SUVs for $158,200. In addition, council approved a bomb dog for the Anderson County Sheriff's Department. The cost of the dog and the training will be $9,500. Council also approved $9,100 for radios for dispatch.

Anderson County Councilman Craig Wooten read the ordinance, which said there are 212 small businesses located in Anderson County and that the resolution was aimed as preserving "uniqueness of our community."

On Tuesday night council also gave final approval to tax incentives for Bosch, which announced on Friday it would invest an additional $152 million in Anderson, bringing 130 new jobs to the Anderson facility with an average wage of $24 per hour.

"This is great for Anderson County," Dunn said. "They've been a good corparate neighbor over the years, and we appreciate what they have done."

The 20-year economic impact on the community could exceed $208 million, according to Anderson County Economic Development Director Burriss Nelson.

Council also gave final approval to the Northeast County Area Plan (NECAP) for development and land use Tuesday night. The plan can be found at
