County, City, Closing In on Final FY 2019-2020 Budgets

Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer

Anderson County and the City of Anderson are in the process of finishing budgets for the upcoming fiscal year 2019-2020.

Anderson County approved, on first reading, a budget that will include a one percent cut in all departments, stage two of raises begun last year to bring county employee salaries up to levels equivalent to pay scales of those in similar jobs in other counties, and are still in the process of deciding on a vehicle tax fee which would be used exclusively to fund road work and be paired with a one-mill tax decrease. The current proposed budget, which includes capital funds and general revenue is $212,008,555.

County council has been holding a series of budget workshops, and is scheduled to vote, on second reading, at Tuesday's regular 6:30 p.m. meeting in the historic courthouse downtown. Other workshops could be scheduled before the meeting. Visit here, to find out times and dates, or watch the Anderson Observer for annoucements not included on that page.

The City of Anderson's final budget vote is set for their next regular meeting, June 24 at 6 p.m. in the council chambers on the first floor of City Hall. The total proposed budget, which includes all funds is $78,963,179, maintains the same millage rate of 116, which was rolled back from 118 in 2017, and includes a 2.25 percent cost of living increase for all employees.
