Week of Oct. 15

Dog

Marlon- Breed: Boxer / Mix

  • ·         Age: 3y 1m Gender: Male
  • ·         Color: White
  • ·         Spayed/Neutered: Yes
  • ·         Size: Medium

“Like most of our guests, Marlon can be enthusiastic at the prospect of getting his turn to romp through the play yard. Once he is outside, his leash manners improve and he is very playful. His tail wags continuously when he meets new friends to play with, both human and canine. If a dog buddy isn't so happy to meet him, he simply turns and walks away without incident. His favorite toy is a knotted rope and he enjoys a friendly game of tug, never concerning himself with who wins. Marlon can be fairly picky about his treats but has found hot dogs to be to his liking. He is a small little chap and is sure to leave plenty of room on the couch for others to join him!”

 CAT

Rascal- Breed: Domestic Shorthair / Mix

  • ·         Age: 5y 4m Gender: Male
  • ·         Color: Blue / Black
  • ·         Spayed/Neutered: Yes
  • ·         Size: Small
  • ·         Declawed: Yes

“Rascal is a great cat! He is declawed so he would make a fantastic indoor pet. He gets a little nervous around small children, but loves to be petted and shown affection. He loves bouncing back and forth between his cat trees. This little fella would make a great addition to any feline loving home!”

Pets of The Week, March 5

Meet Morris!  He is a 2 year old, extremely sweet domestic short haired cat.  Morris came to PAWS FIV positive.  Here are a few excerpts fromhttp://www.littlebigcat.com/health/living-with-fiv/   about FIV positive cats.  If you are interested in finding out more about FIV, please visit the website.

"Like most viruses, FIV is specific to its host species and infects only cats; it is not contagious to people. FIV is found in 1-1/2 to 3% of all cats in the U.S.  Like the Serengeti lions, many FIV+ cats live long lives without ever developing symptoms of the disease."

"Most FIV+ cats could be adopted and live with FIV-negative cats with very little risk of transmitting the disease. Because FIV is only transmitted through bite wounds, a non-aggressive FIV+ cat would not put other cats at risk. Sadly, most FIV+ cats in shelters are euthanized, or segregated and "warehoused" for the rest of their lives with little chance of adoption."

"FIV is not a death sentence. However, sensible precautions should be taken. FIV+ cats should be kept strictly indoors to eliminate the risk of transmitting the disease to other cats through fighting, as well as to reduce exposure to secondary infections that could harm the cat."

Meet Sue,  she is a very calm and extremely quiet  6+ year old hound mix.  She came to us in 2014 through a court case that took over a year for us to gain custody of her.  She was heartworm positive and after winning custody, her heartworm treatment was started .  She is shy around men and does not trust them.   She does not act her age OUTSIDE of the shelter environment, where while inside, she does not interact with the public.  Please come in and take her out to the dog park and see her true personality.   She loves to give kisses and be loved on.  Please consider opening your home to an older dog that has gone through so much in her life.
