Who We Are

Welcome to The Anderson Observer, a place we hope you will find news you can use from people you trust. We officially launched our online newspaper Aug. 19, and our content and connections to the community continue to expand. Here you will find news, opinion, law enforcement incident reports, and other sections featuring the best in local news and information. We will update news and law enforcement daily and the other sites will be updated throughout the week. Our news links offer direct links to all the other local newspapers and television and radio stations, plus the links to all other daily South Carolina newspapers. We also provide links to the nation's largest news outlets, so visit us as your gateway to all the news you need.

Some of the names you might know. Contributing writers will initially include those with years of experience in local news. I am the editor, Greg Wilson. My family has been a part of Anderson County for many generations, so my sense of this place is based on deep roots and a deep affection for my home. I am former editorial-page editor of the Anderson Independent and a freelance writer whose work has appeared in publications ranging from the New York Times to Christianity Today. I will be covering much of the news and providing editorials and other copy.

Cobb Oxford, one of the areas most experienced sportswriters and informed sports voices in the region, will write an ocassional column on what is happening in sports. Samantha Harris, already a popular local columnist has brought her column here. Other writers in the community whose names you will recognize will write for us as well. Watch these pages in the days ahead for announcements of these other local leaders and writers who will be contributing to The Anderson Observer. We are your neighbors and friends and want this newspaper to be a place where you can be informed and get information important to you to our readers.

We will also be offering substantial coverage of the arts of the county and the area. Featured artists and artwork, original artwork - from photography and sculpture to poetry and fiction - will be a staple of our Arts pages in the near future

We welcome your suggestions and letters, your events and story ideas, and advertising. hope you will make us a key source for local news and information.
