The Market Theatre will present “The Tempest,” a free performance of the Shakespeare classic in Carolina Wren Park at 8 p.m. June 15-19
“The Tempest” explores themes of magic, betrayal, love, and forgiveness, and is set on an island near Italy where Prospero, a powerful magician, and his daughter Miranda live with a sprite named Ariel and a wildman named Caliban. The play begins with Prospero creating a storm that wrecks a ship carrying the King of Naples, his son Ferdinand, and others.
The story also includes a plot to murder the king, a scheme to kill Prospero, and a romance between Miranda and Ferdinand.
