Time for Party of Lincoln to Wake Up

Mary Geren/Executive Director of Anderson County Democratic Party

Dear Members of the Party of Lincoln:
Aren’t you tired of your party being hijacked by a wannabe dictator who was twice impeached and just indicted a fourth time? Aren’t you tired of turning yourselves into pretzels while trying to formulate a credible defense for someone who does not know or care that you exist?

Aren’t you tired of being embarrassed by radicals who bow down to their naked emperor regardless of what crime against democracy he asks them to commit? Aren’t you tired of looking like fools not only here in the United States but abroad as well? Party of Lincoln and law and order, aren’t you tired of being tired?
If the answer to any of these questions is yes, I genuinely want to help. You see, it’s time for those of us who tend to fall somewhere in the middle of two extremes get over ourselves and begin working together to defend our democracy.

Too much is at stake; our children’s future is at stake. My daughter has fewer rights than I had at her age, and that pisses me off!
I know the majority of you don’t want the women in your lives to die during an ectopic pregnancy because of some draconian abortion ban that was upheld by an all male state Supreme Court. I know the majority of you don’t want to see more children slaughtered at school. I know the majority of you support a living wage. I know the majority of you want to live in peace without the current divisive rhetoric and vitriol. I know the majority of you believe the Jan. 6 insurrection was an attempt to overthrow our government, and those who participated, including #45, should be held accountable and pay for their crimes.

So, Party of Lincoln, I offer you an olive branch. I realize some of you think you know me because of my political background. My guess is you may not know I am a pragmatist at heart who honestly wants to make our community, state, and nation a better place for our children to live.

You may not know I have always stood up for what I believe is right even when I have been at odds with my own political party. You may not know I honestly don’t care if I am ever elected to any high power position if it means I must compromise my morality. You may not know I will always find a way to get into good trouble even if that must occur outside of partisan politics.

So, I humbly and sincerely ask you Lincoln Republicans to join me in this good trouble crusade. Doing so will require you to demonstrate courage, tenacity, and a strong sense of purpose. This work is not for the faint at heart, but we must fix our broken nation before it’s too late.
