13th Annual Saluda River Rally to Support Special Olympics

Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer

Kayakers from more than 10 states are expected to visit Dolly Cooper Park Saturday for the launch of the 13th annual Saluda River Rally. Participants may launch at 8 a.m. and must be out of the river by 5 p.m.

The event, which offers two options, a 9.2 paddle, expected to take 3-4 hours, which concludes at the Saluda River Grill in Piedmont and an additional six-mile paddle across Saluda River rapids for more experienced kayakers, which involves a portage around the Piedmont dam for an additional 6-miles to the Timmerman Jr. boat ramp in Pelzer.

Shuttles will be available at each site to return boaters and their kayaks to Dolly Cooper.

Participants are required to sign a release at Dolly Cooper Sports Complex. Children under the age of 18 will require a release signed by a parent or guardian. The event is open to the public.

Registration is $35 and includes t-shirt, campsite and transportation back to Dolly Cooper Park. Register and find out more about the event here. All proceeds go to the Area 14 Anderson County Special Olympics.
