AIM, United Way Team Up for Summer Food Program

For 2024, AIM’s Summer Food for Kids has teamed up again with the United Way of Anderson to provide summer meals at 15 locations across the county. And this year, kids will also get free books as part of the program.
During the summer months children living in subsidized housing do not have the same access to food as they do during the school year, especially this year when South Carolina chose not to fund the annual summer food program.
During the school year, the United Way of Anderson provides weekend snack packs for students, and this program helps extend providing meals through the non-school months.
“Every child will have a snack pack every Friday this Summer,” said United Way CEO Carol Burdette. “And this year we decided every child will get at least one book.”
Burdette said this program is personal for her, since she grew up in subsidized housing.
“I lived in the projects, and I could not help thinking how wonderful it would have been to have adults pour into children my age and bring food and books,” said Burdette.
