Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Pamela Christopher has been chosen as the new chairman of the South Carolina Department of Transportation Committee. Christopher, who joined the commission in 2020 and was named vice chairman last year, becomes the first woman to serve as chair for the SCDOT Commission.
“It is a great honor that the first woman commissioner of the SCDOT Commission is from Anderson County,” said Anderson County Administrator Rusty Burns. “The commission could not have chosen a more qualified person and we are excited to see them recognize her excellent leadership.”
Christopher, who took the helm at the Anderson Chamber in 2014, previously served as leader of chambers of commerce in Georgia and Wisconsin. A graduate of the University of Oklahoma Economic Development Institute, she is also certified by the United States Chamber of Commerce and the Institution of Organizational Management, and holds a degree from Macon State College.
“I was privileged to be appointed by Governor McMaster to the SCDOT in 2020 and will continue to honor what I promised him to do which is to support the team at SCDOT and continue to ensure the safety of our citizens in South Carolina,” said Christopher.
“The one area that touches and is utilized by everyone is our road infrastructure, and our SCDOT team is proud to be South Carolinians and we are all extremely committed to doing what we can to provide quality access and ensure the safety of our citizens in South Carolina. I am honored to be the first female to Chair the SCDOT Commission and will continue to lead with the highest integrity and always work collaboratively to focus on providing accessibility to our people.”
“This is an exciting time for SCDOT and we have tremendous opportunities ahead of us."
