Anderson Mayor's MLK Breakfast Set for Friday

Observer Reports

The 17th Annual “Mayor Terence Roberts Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast” is scheduled Friday beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Anderson Civic Center.

The theme, “Reconciliation, Civility, and Justice,” will feature keynote speaker Dr. William C. McCoy, Director of the Rutland Institute for Ethics at Clemson University.

McCoy joined the Clemson University staff as the Director of the Rutland Institute for Ethics in 2018.  Previously, Dr. McCoy was the Director of Ethics Education and Diversity Initiatives for the College of Business at Northern Illinois University (NIU) in DeKalb, Illinois.

“The foundation of civility really is ethics and helping people understand that a ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ yet exist,” said McCoy. “You just have to help point it out to people and then hope that they grasp onto it and understand the reasoning behind it.”

The event will also feature performances by Anderson University student group “Authenticity.”

The event is free and open to the public, but organizers request reservations be made by email  to bbell@cityofandersonsc.com, or by calling 864-231-1135.
