County Opens Applications for Library Board
Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer
It took nearly a week, but Anderson County posted the application to apply for one of two new at-large Anderson County Library Board seats on Monday.
Anderson County residents of any age can be considered for the open positions, which are unpaid.
The application, found here, includes questions about employment history, ownership of property in the county, ownership of a library card, work/civic/volunteer service, and reasons for interest in the board.
The latter includes listing goals for serving in the position, and the following question:
“How would you approach a decision on a matter before the Board of Trustees which involves strong feelings by the citizens in favor of and in opposition to a matter before the Library Board of Trustees?”
It also asks applicants if they are willing to commit to reading any book which has been challenged as to its inclusion or placement in the library.
A list of those who apply should be available for the public, and the county council has promised transparency in the selection process.
Council gave final approval to adding two seats to the library board last week, suggesting that the move would provide broader representation and give council a little more leeway on appointments since library board members serve four-year terms while county council members serve two-year terms.
