Cheney Mill, New Downtown Business Highlight Pendleton Spring Update
Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer
A nearly completed Cheney Mill development district with new housing downtown headlines progress for the Town of Pendleton going into Spring. The project will bring 120 new housing units and expected to be open before summer.
It’s part of Pendleton’s goal to expand efforts to create an expanded walking downtown area, adding to such projects as the West Queen Street sidewalks and streetscapes, and future plans for the old oil mill property.
Meanwhile work is under way to transform the old Rexall Drug store downtown for multiple uses, including a “speak easy” in the basement.
A partnership with Tri-County Technical College is also in the works to make the old “Dog House” gymnasium into an arts hub for Pendleton and the region. This will be a welcome addition to the area which just celebrated another big Spring Jubilee Arts festival. Mayor Frank Crenshaw offered updates on these and other news of Pendleton in this interview with the Anderson Observer.
