The City of Anderson will swear in a one new council member Monday night and the swearing in of new terms for three incumbents.
At the 6 p.m. meeting in city hall, Anderson Attorney Gregory R. Steele will take his new place as representative for Seat 6, while incumbent council members Luis Martinez II, Seat 2, James A. Stewart, Seat 4, and John M. Roberts, At-Large Seat 8, will be sworn in for new terms.
Steele was elected in April to replace longtime Councilman Rich Laughridge who stepped down after serving 16 years in Seat 6, which represents an area that stretches from West of Linley Park, through the Pope Drive community, across to Whitehall Avenue.
“I’m so excited to officially start serving our city as Seat 6 city councilman,” said Steele. “Rick Laughridge has done an amazing job for the last 16 years, and I look forward to working with my esteemed colleagues on council to build upon the legacy he’s left behind.
“From potholes to streetlights, I’ve already been hard at work helping my neighbors solve their problems. To my constituents, please do not hesitate to contact me with issues you’re facing; I’m always an email or phone call away. I’ll do everything within my power to help!”
Council will also consider a pair of annexations and a contract for work at the Generostee Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant Project as part of Monday’s meeting.
