City to Vote on New Residential Development Downtown

Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer

Anderson City Council will give final vote to a plan to rezone 3.5 acres on the southwestern corner of South Murray Avenue and West Franklin Street from Multi-Family Residential to Planned Development District 2 Monday at 6 p.m. in council chambers downtown.

The move would allow flexibility in revitalizing the property with the potential for a new housing with a maximum of 80 multi-family dwellings limited to four stories in height, 25 feet building setbacks and a 25 feet distance from street frontage are also required in this project. Construction requirements include Hardie Board, brick, and/or stone, or a combination of those products, and street trees and canopy trees which meet the city’s landscaping guidelines.

Also on Monday, council will also consider the purchase of tasers for detention center officers and honor retiring Renaissance Academy Director Randolph H. Dillingham at the meeting.
