When the whistle blows Saturday at Younts Stadium on the campus of Anderson University, the school will celebrate the beginning of a new era in athletics.

It only took 113 years, but football has finally come to the school thanks to a $3 million donation by Melvin and Dollie Younts, for whom the stadium is named.

The 5,000-seat stadium is part of a sprawling new athletic complex which includes a 10,000-square-foot fieldhouse, new locker rooms, eight offices for coaches and meeting space.

A pep rally is scheduled at Carolina Wren Park today at 7 p.m., featuring food trucks, live music and t-shirts commemorating the team’s inaugural season.

New head coach Bobby Lamb, who spent years as a player and coach at Furman University began the effort to launch the new program two years ago.

Lamb talked about his career and his return to the gridiron in this interview with the Anderson Observer.
