Council Amends New Subdivision Requirements
Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer
Anderson County Council amended, on second vote, a resolution to require all future subdivisions built in the county to include a 100-foot buffer around the development.
The amendments to the proposal, which is expected to see additional revisions before the final vote in December, included reducing the buffer to 50-feet for developments of 50 or fewer houses.
County Council Chairman Tommy Dunn said the ordinance is not perfect and still needs work, but that he is certain the council will work out a solution to protect landowners and provide affordable housing.
Council also voted to approve a 25-year lease with American Towers, allowing the company to retain certain easement rights, including serve and utility easements, on property which includes county land and land owned by the City of Anderson. The agreement will require the company to pay $575,000 for the leases, which will be split equally between the city and count. American Towers has been paying $1,000 per month for more than 20 years under the current lease, which is expiring.
Anderson County Council Vice Chairman Brett Sanders recapped the meeting for the Anderson Observer.
