In the next-to-the-last meeting of 2024 Tuesday night, Anderson County Council voted against new planning commission guidelines involving changes in the appeals process for rejected projects. The meeting was held at the Anderson Civic Center due to repairs and updates at the historic courthouse. The Dec. 17 county council meeting will also be held at the civic center at 11 a.m.
Most of the council said they support revisions, but prefer to give the public more time to chime in on the new plans before voting to approve new measures.
Council also gave final approval to the $35 million bond to be used for construction of the new detention center. Final approval was also given for the $180 million generator for that facility.
Three grants were also approved on Monday. A $279.000 grant secured by S.C. Sen. Richard Cash, R-Anderson, will be used for repairs to the press box at Hurricane Springs Park.
A grant of just over $477,000 was approved for generators for wastewater treatment facilities and a second grant of $153,000 was approved for trailer-mounted by-pass pumps for the county.
