County Administrator Recaps 2024

A new $80 million detention center, weather-related disasters and booming economic development top the list of stories of the year for Anderson County in 2024.

The new detention center construction is expected to be completed in less than three years, with more services for inmates with mental or substance abuse issues as well as space for groups wishing to work with inmates.

Cleanup from Hurricane Helene continues, with debris still being gathered from yards across the county, a process which is expected to continue into January. The organic waste is being chipped to make room in the county’s sole landfill that can accommodate such waste, and will be made available as free mulch to citizens.

Meanwhile, more than 3,000 new jobs were added in 2024, with average salaries close to $24 per hour.

Anderson County Administrator Rusty Burns recaps 2024 and talks about why he is optimistic about the year ahead in this interview with the Anderson Observer.
