Anderson County Council gave final approval to a $278 million fiscal-year 2023-2024 budget on Tuesday, which represents an increase of $43 million over the current year’s budget and includes no tax increases.

The budget includes funding for capital improvements to a number of county-owned buildings, a three-percent across-the-board raise for county employees and five new positions: a deputy coroner, two new community deputies, an additional records clerk for the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office and a new employee in parks and recreation.

Council also approved, on second reading, to allow residents in the Fork No. 2 area near Townville to move ahead with a Zoning Referendum, which, if approved on third reading, is scheduled August 8. Residents of the community wishing to vote in this special election must be registered no later than July 9.  Mail-in voter registration forms will be accepted if postmarked by July 10. The residents of the area petitioned council for the opportunity to zone their part of the county. No current businesses, agricultural-use land or other businesses or homes will be impacted by the vote if zoning is approved. The new zoning district would only affect future development.
