Dam/Footbridge Plan Could Link Piedmont to Brighter Future
Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer
A $9 million plan to restore the Piedmont footbridge and revitalize the area on both sides of the Saluda River for public use was presented Tuesday night in Piedmont, offering a vision for a future which could make Piedmont a tourist destination.
The proposal includes a new footbridge, playground and picnic area, natural park areas and paths, and public parking connecting both sides of the river.
Working with officials in Anderson and Greenville counties, the lead planner for the project is Blake Sanders, president of Studio Main, a planning and landscape architecture firm in West Pelzer, said that the next step is for local officials in both counties to help secure funding from state and federal sources which will finance the project.
Sanders, who is also the S.C. Rep. Elect for Dist. 9, will turn over his work on the project after the November elections.
