Green Pond Brings in $110M in First Nine Years
Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer
From a small boat ramp to international star, in just over nine years, Green Pond Landing and Event Center has joined the ranks of top economic engines for Anderson County.
The facility, with the deepest launch ramps on Hartwell Lake, has generated more than $110 million since 2014, and has become a top destination for national and international fishing tournaments. It also has the most spectacular sunset views on the lake.
Green Pond has expanded every year, adding new docks, a large bathroom, an amphitheater, and extending parking. Future plans include and events center and more boat launches.
The 30-acre park was made possible by PCB settlement funds to make up for years of lost recreation on the lake.
Anderson County Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management Director Glenn Brill, offered a brief overview of the history of the facility this week at the Anderson County Museum.
The Anderson Observer talked to Brill, Visit Anderson’s Neil Paul (who has been a key factor in bringing in tournaments), Blake Sanders (President of Studio Main which helped design the location) and Matt Schell (Anderson County Parks Manager, whose vision helped launch and continues to be evident at Green Pond), about the growth.
