Growing Greenville Street Market a Family Tradition

Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer

It started with an honor-system roadside produce stand built on a boat trailer featuring harvest from the century-old family farm in Pendleton. From there it moved to a silo on that farm, and today has expanded to a proper market.

Pendleton’s Greenville Street Market, located within the town limits at 719 Greenville Street, with offerings from local farmers, millers and other goods created in the area. Not only do they offer local eggs, cheese and milk, they offer milk, half and half and lemonade in glass bottles. Local produce season is just around the corner, and in the meantime, they have a selection of fruit and vegetables from Florida to help fill the shelves.

Keeping shelves stocked has been a challenge. In the first week, the market was inundated with customers looking for fresh, local goods, something the founders and owners – Blake and Allie Gillespie – found both pleasing and surprising.

The couple is restocking regularly and looking forward to being a mainstay in the Pendleton community.
