New Manufacturing, Mill Cleanup Top News in Honea Path
Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer
New manufacturing jobs and finishing a long-planned project top Honea Path’s news heading into autumn.
Honea Path will officially have access to the $2.65 million Environmental Protection Agency Grant in October to cleanup and revitalize the old Chiquola Mill site.
The town will not bank the money, but instead put out bids for the projects which will be invoiced to the fund for compensation. The first stage is to clean up the mill property, and then a strategic plan will be put together to find the right developer. The goal is mixed use of the space, which should include housing and retail.
The former Parke Davis chemical plant in Honea path, a 100,000-square-foot, 22-acre site, is reopening to make latex-free gloves at the facility. Total jobs and investment is to be announced, but the shortage of these products is still acute nationwide.
Housing starts are also up in the town moving into the final quarter of the year.
Mayor Christopher Burton discusses these and other updates, including recreation, in this interview with the Anderson Observer.
