Palmetto Seniors Fall Just Short in Bassmaster Nationals

Bryson Gurley and Ethan Evatt came within 11 ounces of winning the 2023 Strike King Bassmaster High School Championship at Green Pond Landing. Instead, the rising seniors at Palmetto High School seniors, finished a strong second against 480 teams from across North America in the national tournament.
The winners Mitchell Robinson and Cody Abbott, from Byrnes High School, won the tournament with a three-day total of 33 pounds, three ounces, topping the Gurley/Evatt total of 32 pounds, eight ounces.
The tournament marked the 10th year B.A.S.S. held a national championship high school tournament, and the second consecutive year it’s been at Lake Hartwell. A total of 481 teams from 35 states and Canada competed.

The Anderson Observer talked briefly to Gurley and Evatt were honored recently by Anderson County Council, just as they were planning to go to the national tournament.
