Pelzer Faces Challenges of Growth
Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer
The Town of Pelzer hopes its location on the banks of the Saluda River will bring new investment and growth.
Pelzer is already seeing growth in housing and is looking to attract new businesses, with a special target on a riverfront restaurant.
The town faces the challenge of no tax revenue, thanks to Act 388, a new formula for figuring municipal tax revenue, which passed in 2006.
Meanwhile, the Mill Town Players attract more than 30,000 visitors each year for their productions, which has helped raise Pelzer’s recognition across the Southeast.
Mayor Will Ragland talked about his town’s growth and challenges in this interview with the Anderson Observer.
