Anderson Arts Center Director April Cameron has announced plans to step down from her position to move to Savannah, Ga., where she will serve as president of the Port Wentworth Chamber of Commerce.

“I have absolutely loved my time at the Arts Center,” said Cameron. “I was lucky to have an incredible group of people to work with every day: talented artists to help me grow in my knowledge of art and techniques, fantastic board members who supported our vision for growth, and dedicated donors and business supporters who believe the arts are important. Anderson welcomed me with open arms nearly 18 years ago, and I have tried to show my appreciation by being involved and working for good things in our community.”

In addition to her work at the Arts Center, Cameron has been an active part of the community, founding Anderson Magazine, working for Meals on Wheels of Anderson, and as a member of Rotary Club of Greater Anderson.

As the director of the Arts Center, Cameron led initiatives to implement new programming such as Art Slam and After School Art Studio. In partnership with the City of Anderson, the Arts Center played an integral role in the revival of the Soiree Arts Festival. She also led a capital campaign to pay off the building debt, which was achieved in 2022.

“It is bittersweet to make this move, but I am excited about the new opportunity,” said Cameron. “I grew up about an hour from Savannah, and that area is home to me. I still have family members there, and I’m really excited about the job at the Chamber.”

The Arts Center board of directors has chosen Kathy Moore as the new executive director. In a release, they wrote that Moore “has been active at the Arts Center for some time, understands the mission of the Arts Center, has a passion for the arts, and has the experience to continue moving the Arts Center in a great direction.”
