"Rocky Horror" to Rock Market Theatre

Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer

The “Rocky Horror Show,” which opens Friday night at Anderson’s Market Theatre, is a time warp just in time to usher in the Halloween season.

In this stage version of the cult classic movie, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” sweethearts Brad and Janet, stuck with a flat tire during a storm, discover the eerie mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter. Along the way they meet a houseful of wild characters, including a rocking biker and a creepy butler. Through elaborate dances and rock music, Frank-N-Furter unveils his latest creation: a muscular man named “Rocky.”

The stage play includes extra songs and verses not in the movie, and there are a few other changes, but the spirit of the story and audience interaction remain the same.

Fans of the show like to make it interactive, including shouting out responses to certain lines or names. Fans are encouraged to come prepared with their favorite Rocky Horror traditions. For those who are seeing the show for the first time, a cheat sheet with some of the favorite audience responses will be included in the program. There will also be available an optional Participation Kit, offering a few props and instructions for some of the best traditions.
