Sheriff Says 2023 a Year of Progress, Looking to Future

Anderson County moved ahead with a new detention center in 2023, with funding approved and a plan expected to be presented in January.

Sheriff Chad McBride said the new facility would be safer for officers and inmates, offer a lot more space and additional services to evaluate inmates with mental illness and addiction problems.

The Sheriff’s office also added K-9 officers in 2023, which McBride said would help his department in areas from searching for lost people, to shifting out drugs ($207,000 in drugs in 2023) and electronics. $207,000 in drugs 

A new emergency management boat was also added to public safety in Anderson this year, offering a better search and rescue vehicle as well as one which can put out fires from the lake.

The year also featured Anderson County Sheriff’s officers on the reality television show “Cops.”

Bride and his team finished the year with arrest of two suspects in the 2015 quadruple homicide in Pendleton.

The sheriff discussed these issues and other events of the year in this interview with the Anderson Observer.
