Storm Debris Cleanup to Continue into January
Observer Reports
As cleanup from the damage from Hurricane Helene continues in Anderson County, residents are encouraged to make sure all debris is safely placed on the road right of way before Dec. 16.
Most debris cleanup is projected to be completed before the end of the year, but pickup will continue into the first few weeks of January until the task is complete.
“If you have debris, you should get it to the right of way in front of your house as soon as possible,” said Anderson County Administrator Rusty Burns.
Residents who are having trouble getting debris to the right of way due to limited road frontage or debris blocking the way should call the South Carolina Department of Transportation at 855-467-2368.
Since work began in October, nearly 1,800,000 cubic yards of debris have been collected in South Carolina. Motorists are being remined to slow down and allow extra space when encounter cleanup crews.
“This is one of the largest debris missions in the history of our agency,” said SCDOT Deputy Secretary for Engineering Rob Perry in a news release. “We want to reassure folks that we are coming to help. We know we have properties in our hardest-hit areas that are still waiting for the first pickup. We appreciate the patience of our community members as we work closely with our own maintenance forces and contract forces to clean up all of the mess that the storm left in our state.”
