Superintendent: Top Teacher Pay, Small Classes Highlight Year Ahead in Dist. 2

Anderson School Dist. 2, which has invested in smaller classroom sizes, will start the 2024-2025 school year with the highest pay for new teachers with a bachelor’s degree, with salaries of $50,002.

An expanding 4-K program, which is a paid program for students with developmental or economic needs, is full and teachers say students who have taken part in the program are “without exception” are more well-prepared for 5-K than those who have not gone through such a program, and out-perform students in all demographics.

The year ahead will also include exploration on how to move forward on challenges of the district’s two middle schools, which were built in 1954. Superintendent Jason Johns said the district should have an answer to that issue before the end of the upcoming school year.

Johns said his district’s state report card on school climate, which has comments from parents and others, was the highest rating in the state in 2023-2024.

Johns outlined the year ahead for his 3,800-student district in this interview with the Anderson Observer.
