Tis the Season to Recycle Holiday Trash
Greg Wilson/Anderson County
Let’s start the new year right.
Americans throw away 25 million tons of trash during the Thanksgiving to New Year’s holiday season than during any other time of year, 25 percent more than at any other time of year.
Anderson County is offering a convenient way to recycle and dispose of holiday waste, including the Christmas tree.
The county has partnered with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Hartwell Lake Office to collect recycled Christmas trees to be used as fish habitats.
Natural Christmas trees may be dropped off at any county convenience center through Friday-Jan. 25 at any Anderson County convenience center (list here). All lights, ornaments and tinsel must be removed before dropping the trees off.
Recycling at one of the centers across the county generates revenue which saves taxpayers money in the county. Citizens can recycle aluminum cans, plastic bottles/jugs, mixed paper, paperboard, cardboard, household electronics, cooking oil, steel cans, used motor oil including bottles & filters, glass bottles/jars/jugs, tires and antifreeze.
